Online Academy video recording guidelines
Pitching & Catching Video
When filming during a bullpen session, the camera should be located behind the pitchers mound, far enough away/zoomed where you can see the pitcher’s whole body. The shot should also film pointed at the catcher’s glove or the net being thrown into. We want to see the pitcher’s full delivery as well as see the ball traveling toward home plate. Often, this will involve taking a few steps to the right or left of the pitcher so that their body does not block seeing ball flight.
For pitchers, another good view for the evaluation is the open side. This would be from the third base side for right handed pitchers and the first base side for left handed pitchers
Hitting Video
The best angle to break down hitting mechanics will be from what we call the “Open Side”. This involves filming from the batters box of the opposite handedness of the athlete.
For best results, you want to have the hitter’s whole body and bat in the shot the entire time. So make sure you are zoomed out enough to capture the head/helmet and bat in the batting stance.
